Tips for The Study-Frustrated Students

Students who are confused can quickly be discouraged in the classroom if they are under pressure to perform. It may be that difficulties in observation or processing prevent the student from understanding the text, or that he is not explicitly instructed in a particular task.

Frustration can occur when a student is working in a specific area of the subject. Some students may be disappointed in English class, while for others it is frustrating to see math problems. Frustration may also be related to high expectations of students' performance on exams, such as the need to answer each answer correctly or flawed writing that does not require revision.

There may be more than one reason why students feel frustrated and no two students will be helped by exactly the same strategies. It is important for teachers to assess whether frustration is temporary or becomes a long-term problem. This is because frustration can cause students to lose motivation over time. This can increase anxiety, loss of confidence, low self-esteem and negative attitude towards school and learning.

How does Frustration look like?

Physical signs

Teachers can observe physical symptoms such as breathing, biting teeth, or fistula. When writing with a pen or pencil, students may have sweaty palms and may over-expose themselves.

Emotional signs

Students experiencing depression may be more emotional. They can become angry quickly or appear defensive in getting help. In some cases, frustration can lead a student to deal with teachers and peers.

In the classroom

Some students will be tempted and will have difficulty staying in one place. They can walk away from the desk, close their books (or refuse to open them first), or even throw away stationery or paper.

Helping students cope deal depression

Regardless of its source, critical feedback is teachers and parents for a depressed child. Each student will feel frustrated at some points in their life. By modelling healthy ways of coping with depression, students are more likely to calm down in the future.

You can try teaching strategies, such as allowing a depressed student to remain calm, discuss the problem and evaluate all of his / her options, which may require some distance gain and looking at the problem.

Some Ways to help students cope

Teach them how they feel

Sometimes simply recognizing the frustration they feel and counting to ten can provide some relief from the stress and anxiety associated with it. Everyone is frustrated from time to time and it is no shame to be open about it. Teachers can share an example of a task that frustrates them and explain the strategies they used to address their feelings.

Get them back and re-evaluate the problem

Students may feel frustrated with one aspect of the problem, but they may gain a much needed perspective as they retreat. You can suggest that they work on a different part of the task for some time or move on to another task altogether. It will be easy to come up with a new approach when you return to the original work.

Suggest alternative ways to complete the task

If the way in which the work is to be done is frustrating, teachers may want to suggest alternative ways to engage in learning or to demonstrate knowledge. For example, if the task is to produce a written report, you can convert it into tablets or oral presentations.

Help them build up their confidence

Encourage students to do something they are good at - so build confidence and feel more capable again. This is the lower level of a challenge or a passion they possess. Teachers can interrupt tasks or allow students to practice confidence before starting a task that can lead to frustration.

It can also help teachers, tutors, or parents work closely with the student to identify the source of their frustration. Starting at the beginning and slowly going through the problem, we will tell you a lot about why the student feels frustrated and when frustration will appear - you can come up with more targeted solutions to reduce it.
